Cycling tour around Évora. Today we visit some of the most important megalithic monuments of the region. The landscape is lovely, with many cork trees. We will visit the Dolmen of Zambugeiro - the biggest in Europe, the Cromlech of Almendres, the Menir of Almendres and the roman ruins of Tourega. We ride through olive groves to reach the small and traditional village of Nossa Srª de Machede. We then pass theCastle of Valongo. In Reguengos de Monsaraz we can visit the gorgeous winery where they still have a room with the old clay pots to keep the wine. 58 - 36 miles
We will visit the famous pottery village o fS. Pedrodo Corval, where you can see the men working the clay, transforming it into beautiful pots and plates, and the ladies painting them with flowers. Then we reach the gorgeous village of Monsaraz, built in a castle on top of a hill. From Monsaraz you'll take in the beautiful view over the lake of the Alqueva Dam, the largest reservoir of Europe. 35 - 20 miles
We leave the schist land and discover the marble kingdom. We start by visiting the impressive sanctuary of Nossa Srª da Boa Nova and the village centre of Terena. After we pass by the lunar landscape of the marble quarries of Bencatel area, from where the "white gold" was extracted to build gorgeous cities as Estremoz and Borba. 50 - 31 miles
We start by visiting the Ducal Palace of Vila Viçosa, and then continue to Borba and Gloria. We visit theChurch of Nossa Srª dos Martires and arrive early to Estremoz, where you can wander around narrow streets and explore the beautiful historical centre. 35 - 20 miles

On a self-guided tour, you are basically independent. IberoCycle transports luggage to the next hotel.
Riders are expected to complete each day's ride, unless there is an emergency, or a mechanical problem.
Cyclists do not travel as part of a group or with a guide, although they may coincide with other cyclists on the same trip.
Our "IberoCycle On Call" service means we are always available for help or advice.
Cyclists are provided with our own detailed Route Guide and maps for their chosen route.
Fitter cyclists may extend stages at will.

The usual arrival point for this tour is Lisbon and Lisbon Airport. The airport website has useful information on destinations from Portugal by air.
From Lisbon Airport clients should take a taxi to either the bus station (Sete Rios) or the train station (Oriente). Our courier recommends that you take the taxi from departures rather than arrivals. The price should be 10 - 15 € (ask before you take the taxi).
There are frequent buses from Lisbon to Évora. See timetables at Rede Expressos. Once in Évora, it is possible to take a taxi with Sr Fadista to the hotel in Alvito - this is a 40-minute taxi ride and costs around 40 € - telephone Sr. Fadista +351 962 556 224
You can also take the train to Alvito. You must change in Casa Branca. These are less frequent. Check timetables here. If you take the train, you must book a taxi in advance to pick you up from the train station. Taxi driver: Sr Miguel - +351 965 369 750. We can book this for you if you let us know your arrival time.
A transfer from Évora to Alvito may be arranged on arrival depending on our availability - please consult us.
After the tour ends, you take the bus from Estremoz back to Lisbon (around 15 €). Take a taxi from the Estremoz hotel to the bus station. Buses are around every hour. On arrival in Lisbon, taxi again to the airport. The price should be 10 - 15 € (ask before you take the taxi).
Vehicle transfers from Lisbon Airport to Alvito and then from Estremoz to Lisbon Airport are priced at 86 € per person per transfer.
